(L-R) Zoya Afroz (2nd runner-up), Navneet Kaur Dhillon (Miss India 2013) and Sobhita Dhulipala (1st runner-up).

Navneet Kaur Dhillon, from Patiala, was crowned Femina Miss India 2013 in a star studded grand finale of the 50th edition of the beauty pageant on Sunday night. The 20-year-old beauty dubbed her win as “a dream come true”

“I can’t believe I am here. I can’t express it in words but it is a beautiful moment. I feel my moment is here,” said Dhillon to reporters after being crowned Femina Miss India.

She’s is the daughter of an Indian Army officer who attended Patiala’s Punjabi University to pursue media studies, She loves photography, swimming, horse  riding and dreams of setting up a production house. Like most beauty queens, she is not averse to acting in Bollywood films and hopes to get into directing eventually. However, it’s not her Bollywood dreams that won her the Miss India 2013 title. Her altruistic response to the question: ‘what would be her only regret if she were to die the following day?’ brought in the crown.

Her response? “The only thing I would regret would be not having done as much for society as I would like to. Issues of women’s empowerment and child labour and other social evils are a big concern.”

Miss Earth 2012 is Czech Republic, Tereza Fajksova

Miss Czech Republic Tereza Fajksova has won the Miss Earth 2012 beauty pageant, which was held in Manila, Philippines, on Saturday.

Miss Philippines Stephany Stefanowitz was crowned as Miss Earth Air, Miss Venezuela Osmariel Villalobos as Miss Earth Water and Miss Brazil Camila Brant as Miss Earth Fire.

Russia’s Miss Earth contestant, Natalya Pereverzeva, 24, who was among top 16 finalists, shocked the public by her controversial essay about Russia, in which she criticized corruption in the country. “My Russia is a beggar. My Russia cannot help her elderly and orphans. From it, bleeding, like from a sinking ship, engineers, doctors, teachers are fleeing, because they have nothing to live on,” the essay said.
The remarks set off a firestorm of criticism in the Internet, with most bloggers accusing her of being ‘unpatriotic’ and ‘weird.’

2012 Miss Earth Candidates start arriving in the Philippines

The batch of Miss Earth contestants started arriving in Manila this past week.  Some of them includes Miss Italy, Miss Paraguay, Miss Tanzania, Miss Honduras, Miss USA Indonesia and Miss Japan.  More candidates are expected to arrive in the coming days as the finals of the 2012 Miss Earth Pageant draws near.  The grand coronation night will take place at the Versailles Palace in Alabang, Muntinlupa, Metro Manila on November 24.  Below is the schedule of events for Miss Earth 2012.

Miss Earth Botswana’s trip to the Philippines hangs in limbo

Reigning Miss Earth Botswana, Lorraine Motlalepula Ditsebe’s trip to Philippines for the pageant’s final next month hangs in the balance unless she receives sponsorship for her flight and wardrobe.  The 19-year-old is supposed to jet off to the Philippines on Thursday with the finals set for November 24, but the trip hangs in limbo as she is yet to find a sponsor. Ditsebe beat a host of other hopefuls at the national finals to be crowned the national winner and she will now  try to scoop the world title. In the Philippines, she is set to battle it out against environmentally conscious stunners from around 100 other countries.

Despite the sponsorship challenge, she is confident she can bring home the crown: “I see myself winning this,” she told Showbiz and further states; ” I see myself as the biblical Queen Esther and it is my faith in God and passion that drives me to clinch this title.”

The teenage said she has researched widely to familiarise herself with environmental issues and use of sustainable energy in protection of the environment: “I also want to understand international environmental issues that all countries experience since we are living in a global village.”

Miss Earth is classed as one of the biggest and most prestigious beauty events in the world and Ditsebe’s involvement in the competition is something of a whirlwind for the beauty who had never participated in any large competitive pageant. Prior to the Miss Earth national pageant, she had only participated in two primary school pageants but achieved minimal success. Even though she hasn’t participated in a pageant of this scale before, Ditsebe is convinced her green credentials, gained through researched information on the topic, and natural beauty can produce a winning formula in  the Philippines- if she  is able to travel for the finals:

“I believed in myself and had focus from day one that I was going to win as God has been my pillar of strength. So I wasn’t shocked that I won,” she said. Sadly, even with all this confidence and faith her biggest challenge still remains clinching  a financier who will make the trip possible for her.  Her dream for the International Miss Earth 2012 finals is to help the Botswana Miss Earth organisation groom young girls to enable them to achieve the dream she had. Ditsebe says she also wants to set goals with local existing environmental organisations and Eco Clubs at various schools that will help in achieving the protection of mother earth because there is no healthy economy on a sick environment.

The University of Botswana (UB) student is looking for votes from Batswana to increase the country’s chances of winning the Miss Photogenic Award: “If I get at least 3000 votes I will be fast tracked to top 15 out of 80 countries,” she said. Botswana has taken part in the last five finals but is yet to make the top eight.

Green Bikinis Make Saving the Earth Sexier at Miss Earth

Produced in Easton, Pennsylvania, ECO SWIM by AQUA GREEN swimsuits made from recycled bottles and plastic bags are proving that saving the planet can be sexy.

“Beauty pageants and bikinis naturally fit together,” said Sandra Davidoff, Director of Communications at ECO SWIM. “It only makes sense that Miss Earth reached out to us. We hope that our small steps will create a large ripple effect for future generations.”

The women will shine from the outside and within, choosing to grace the “green” carpet, modeling bikinis that are better for the planet. During the 2012 International Miss Earth Pageant, Ciara Walker, Zahida Begum, Sara Pendar, and Zoe Kinsella have all chosen to wear ECO SWIM by AQUA GREEN during their promotional tour. By choosing to wear ECO SWIM by AQUA GREEN, Miss Earth is diverting otherwise-wasted plastics from our landfills and oceans.

“The women of Miss Earth feel blessed and proud to be wearing ECO SWIM beachwear. They can not get over the fact that these very fashionable, glamorous, and luxury swimsuits are made from recycled plastic bags,” explains Louise Brown, UK Director of Miss Earth.

There is no better time to reach the pageant’s millions of viewers than now. A partnership with ECO SWIM by AQUA GREEN means contestants are able to educate the public on ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

“The partnership Miss Earth and ECO SWIM have is very special and celebrates the power of beauties for a cause. Following our motto “Green, Glam and Gorgeous”, ECO SWIM allows the women to stand out and make a statement that green is glam,” says Mrs. Brown.

ECO SWIM by AQUA GREEN was invited to partner with the UK contestants of Miss Earth due to its international growth and status as the leading eco-friendly swimsuit company in the market as well as the company’s parallel mission to protect and preserve our oceans.

About Miss Earth: The Miss Earth Pageant is an international beauty competition involving candidates from around the world. Launched in 2001, Miss Earth Pageant’s raison d’etre is to have its candidates and winners actively promote and get involved in the preservation of the environment and the protection of Mother Earth.
